Svartfest II Goth & Synth Festival
The Darkness Returns to Kalmar
On September 25, devotees of synth, goth, EBM, darkwave, and industrial music will gather for an evening where internationally acclaimed acts share the stage with cult-status veterans and local favorites.
Headlining this year's lineup is the legendary Covenant. With classics such as Dead Stars, Call the Ships to Port, and Bullet, they have remained one of the most influential and beloved acts on the international synth scene for decades. Their blend of futuristic soundscapes, powerful melodies, and charismatic stage presence has made them a natural headliner at festivals around the world.
This time, Svartfest takes over Sandra, an icon of Kalmar's nightlife, transforming the venue into a gathering place where dark culture, electronic rhythms, hypnotic basslines, and alternative aesthetics are given a larger stage than ever before.
Festival Lineup 2027
▲ Covenant
As one of Sweden's most successful synth bands, Covenant hardly needs an introduction. For more than three decades, they have delivered timeless club classics and outstanding live performances, establishing themselves as one of the defining names in the international synth and futurepop scene.
▲ Sturm Café
Raw, uncompromising old-school EBM. Drawing inspiration from the genre's pioneering acts, Sturm Café delivers mechanical beats, aggressive sequences, and an energy built for the dancefloor.
▲ Funhouse
One of Sweden's very first goth rock bands, founded in Kalmar in 1985. With their distinctive blend of post-punk, dark rock, and melancholic melodies, they quickly became a cornerstone of the early Swedish goth scene. Today, they remain a cult act that regularly performs at international festivals around the world.
▲ Cryo
Delivering ice-cold, precision-crafted EBM with clinical production and uncompromising energy. One of Sweden's most respected synth acts and a cornerstone of the modern Swedish EBM scene.
▲ Larva
The Spanish electro-industrial band has been active since the late 1990s, building a loyal following throughout the European underground scene. Larva is known for its hard-hitting, pulsating sound and intense live performances.
▲ Blood Magick
Kalmar's own death-synth act, combining raw minimalism with ritualistic intensity. The music is dark, relentlessly pulsating, and designed to create atmosphere rather than follow traditional song structures. Live, it becomes an almost ceremonial experience.
▲ Maxi-P
A collective that hits with full force. Danceable body music, raw punk attitude, relentless beats, and humor thrown straight into the machinery. Maxi-P is pure live energy: never the same, always explosive.
▲ Loom
Since the mid-1990s, Loom has been creating dark and atmospheric music where post-punk, shoegaze, goth, and indie rock converge. After several years of silence, the band has returned with renewed focus and is once again taking the stage with its signature sound.
In addition to the live performances, visitors can enjoy DJs before, between, and after the concerts, alternative vendors, and a broader festival experience that extends far beyond the traditional concert format.
Svartfest 2027 marks the beginning of a new chapter. With greater resources, stronger partnerships, and one of the most ambitious lineups presented in Kalmar in many years, the festival takes the next step in its mission to strengthen and showcase the alternative dark scene in southern Sweden.
